About the Lab

An engineering notebook that became public.

What an investigation is

The Lab is the engineering arm of The AI Runtime. Each investigation starts with a real customer-shaped problem, defines a reliability bar, builds the smallest system needed to test it, and publishes the failures, evals, decisions, and final field report.

These are not demos and not tutorials. An investigation is a measured attempt to make an AI workflow reliable under a real constraint: a fixed budget, messy public data, a hard precision target. We publish the work as it happens, including the parts that did not work, so the record stays honest about what is and is not solved.

The lifecycle

Every investigation moves through the same stages, in order:

  1. 01 Question
  2. 02 Hypothesis
  3. 03 Experiment
  4. 04 Evaluation
  5. 05 Reliability
  6. 06 Production Trial
  7. 07 Field Report

A status label on each investigation tracks where it sits: investigating, in-eval, or published.
